about ipm
Globalization in the arts has been with us long before the Internet. Music moved beyond borders many centuries ago. French and Russian novels had their English
translators before the turn of the 20th Century and the visual arts have been dispersed among museums around the world. Culture crosses borders, bringing a rich
diversity of imagery and language to stimulate audiences everywhere.
the goal
The goal of the IPM Campaign is to create a facility in which to illuminate the universality and diversity of world poetry, with equal emphasis given to the ancient
heritage of folk poetry as well as contemporary international work.
The Campaign has received endorsements from prominent members of the literary world as well as many local and regional politicians.
All agree that San Francisco would be a wonderful place for such an institution.
the ipm plan
A conceptual floor plan of the proposed museum was designed by local architect Steve Matson. The plan incorporates all the features proposed for the museum
including a library, a theater, an art gallery as well as a cafe and small museum shop.
An important feature of the proposed museum will be a digital archive to contain a collection of documents, images and video presentations of poetry in performance
as well as multimedia works combining various digital elements with spoken word.
Throughout the museum visitors could access various kinds of digital media from simple text to full motion video with sound.
ipm events
Over the course of the year IPM sponsors various events that pertain not only to the museum campaign but also to poetry in general, happening in venues around
the San Francisco Bay Area.
ipm contests
The Campaign sponsors two special competitive events for writers and artists; our annual Songwriters Awards and Poetry Film Festival.
Links below will take you to our contest submission forms.
The value of culture lies in how it deepens our appreciation of life. This has been true since the genesis of culture, when language and art
first took root in the human imagination.
From these seeds of imagination have come a vast array of institutions dedicated to preservation and expression of the visual and performing arts.
Now all who celebrate the Muse of Poetry are invited to join the effort to create an institution that would be the first of its kind to preserve and express the
multicultural magic of international poetry.
Your generous donation will help the International Poetry Museum move beyond imagination to become a reality.
